Thesis statement: Though many people use social media to strengthens the real world relationships, it has many negative effects where it threaten person’s privacy, present fake profiles, and make people have a tendency to lose touch with reality. I. Threaten privacy

A. It can put your personal safety at risk
B. It can reveal something about you that your employer or school not know 1. Employer can monitor your social networking to monitor your illegal activities
2. Recruiters can preview many sides of a candidate’s personal skills a) Example

A. People can write wrong information to look perfect in order to attract others 1. Example that explain the idea
B. Other types of people may miss present their personal characteristics III. Make people have a tendency to lose touch with reality
A. Use social media to touch with friends and relatives instead of reality B. People start to be social networking addicted
1. They will less productive in life and their societies
2. They will start to be isolated and unsocial
3. They will create and live the life that they wanted to be in this visual world and cannot achieve

The Negative Effects of Social Media on Social Life
Many popular social websites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and others have been introduced to our lives. The basic concept behind all these websites is to improve our social lives where we can contact and keep in touch with our friends and relatives. It allows us to share photos, personal information, interests, and other information. However, we have to make sure that our social networking does not cause any problems or negative consequences on our social lives.

First it is essential to know what does social media mean. Social Media 101: Overview & advice (2013) has defined social media, as “Social networks are webbased services that focus on building online communities of people who share interests

 

and activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others”. The popularity of this service has grown enormously since it was first introduced to the society in the late 1990s (Social Networking Privacy: How to be Safe, Secure and Social, 2010). As mentioned social media phenomena may has negative impact on social life and the issue of the negative effects of social media on social life has been discussed a lot. Though many people use social media to strengthens the real world relationships, it has many negative effects where it threaten person’s privacy, present fake profiles, and make people have a tendency to lose touch with reality. This paper will provide information about some disadvantages of using social networks and how it affects social life.

Social media threatens a person’s privacy; it can put your personal safety at risk. Due to the huge amount of information displayed on social media websites people might use personal information such as birth date, profile picture, and home address to thief your identity and misuse it. Another threat that social media has, its ability to reveal something about you that your employer or school does not know; what many people do not know that lots of employers monitor their employees’ illegal activities through social media instead of going anywhere else to check their illegal history. Because it is a place where you share your daily life events and activities freely without thinking of how others will explore your profile page.
